Ama Poot-Poot Hiking Trail, Mpumalanga

The delightfully named Ama Poot-Poot Hiking Trail consists of two dircular day trails in the beautifully scenic, forested but often chilly Eastern Highveld escarpment area between the small towns of Belfast and Dullstroom – in a region of Mpumalanga called the Highlands Meander.

The trails are located on private land and you can choose a 13km trail or a 6km trail – both of which begin and end at a comfortable ‘base camp’ with hot showers, lapa and braai area and which sleeps 24 people.

The 13km Mountain Reedbuck trail takes you across streams and up and down rocky ridges, and the highlight of this trail is a beautiful and wide 10m waterfall. The 6km trail is named the Trout Trail and skirts several mountain trout dams and offers great game viewing.

The Ama Poot Poot Trail lies between Belfast and Dullstroom of the R540.
