Albert Falls Dam in the Natal Midlands is South Africa’s top-ranked bass fishing dam and is rated one of the best in the world.
Albert Falls is home to some very big Florida and Northern strain hybrid largemouth bass, fish of over 4 kg (9 lbs) have been caught with 5 kg (11 lbs) lunkers not uncommon. Albert Falls, along with Goedertrouw is a real contender to produce the next South African record largemouth.
Only 30 minutes from Pietermaritzburg and Durban, the Albert Falls Dam and Game Reserve is a premier destination for the avid recreational angler, keen bird watcher and families looking to enjoy water sports, game viewing and scenic walks. Wildlife in the reserve includes zebra, numerous buck such as the springbok, the red hartebeest, oribi, rhino and giraffe.
The Albert Falls Dam is the fourth largest dam in KwaZulu- Natal, offering a tranquil getaway, with self catering chalets and shady camp site close to the waters edge.
Every year the Albert Falls Bass Classic is held, towards the end of August, and the event attracts fisherman from all over the country and even the world.
