Best Brunch Spots In Stellenbosch
As someone who doesn’t like eating breakfast and starts feeling hungry (or hangry) around 11:00, brunch is the best way to start a slow morning on the weekends… or weekdays.
These are our go-to brunch spots in Stellenbosch:
1.Ya Ya Café
Ya Ya Café is a small, beautiful café on the corner of Dorp and Stadler Street. Although the outside area is basically on the street, this is a very relaxed part of town and has the perfect slow-living outside atmosphere I want to start my late Sunday mornings with.
Customers normally get torn between the delicious eggs benedict (poached eggs, gypsy ham, spinach, with a feta and orange hollandaise sauce) and the scrumptious quinoa porridge (with raisins, banana and stewed apple!).
Breakfast is served all day, so you can even eat your brunch for lunch!
Location: 8 Dorp St, Stellenbosch, Cape Town, 7600
2. Bootlegger
I’ve always had a love affair with brunch. Especially when there is some good coffee involved, and even more so when there is good company involved. For these very reasons, Bootleggers in Stellenbosch is the place to go.
Sneak into their seating area at the back, order a nice cuppa coffee and try their Green Omelette, one of the favorites! or their eggs Benedict- you won’t be dissapointed!
Location: 13 Ryneveld St, Stellenbosch, Cape Town, 7600
3. Blue Crane & Butterfly
If you’re looking for the perfect brunch spot in Stellies, Blue Crane & The Butterfly has got you covered. This little coffee shop is a sweet surprise to stumble upon when wandering through Dorp Street. You will walk out completely satisfied!
Their bacon, asparagus, cherry tomato and cream cheese on toast (topped off with a poached egg – yum!) is to die for. The serving size is pretty decent and made for a hearty meal. Be sure to give them a try the next time you have the need for a good ol’ brunch.
Location: 146 Dorp St, Stellenbosch Central, Stellenbosch, 7600
4. The Birdcage Teabar
The Birdcage is a beautiful little spot nestled away in the heart of Stellenbosch, surrounded by confectionaries that are bound to make your mouth water.
Their breakfasts are all made using Usana free-range eggs, and the choices of bread goes beyond the norm with options such as coconut, raisin rye, seed loaf or sourdough; there’s even an option to enjoy a Schoon croissant.
If you’re planning to stop by, be sure to try the french toast. It’s to die for!
Location: 5 Plein St, Stellenbosch Central, Stellenbosch, 7600
5. Basic Bistro
Basic Bistro is a cosy restaurant situated in the heart of Stellenbosch. Their friendly staff, quick service and excellent food makes it the perfect spot for brunch.
Their breakfast menu is filled with mouthwatering choices including french toast, croissants, omelettes and your basic eggs, bacon and toast.
The breakfasts are well-priced and the portions are more than enough. It’s the perfect place to start of your day.
Location: 31 Church St, Stellenbosch Central, Stellenbosch, 7600
6. Post Card Café
The Postcard Café, set on the Oude Nektar Wine Estate, is the perfect place to grab a lazy brunch, or something to satisfy your sweet tooth. Whether it’s a vegan chickpea-flour pancake or a bacon, cheese and tomato omelette, there’s something for everyone at this peaceful stop.
Grab a glass of their Stark-Condé wines and settle down to enjoy the scenery, just make sure to plan your visit on days other than a Monday or Tuesday, as the Café is closed on these days.
Location: Oude Nektar Wine Estate, Jonkershoek Valley, Stellenbosch, 7600
7. Meraki
Brunch and Meraki are two of my favourite words. Put those two together and you get a really satisfying thumbs up from your tummy.
A small, cosy coffee shop where you can enjoy a coffee and delicious food under the oak trees of Stellenbosch!
Location: 42 Ryneveld St, Stellenbosch, Cape Town, 7600
8. Boschendal at Oude Bank
Situated in the vibrant hub of Stellenbosch, Boschendal at Oude Bank is a favourite spot to have brunch. Where old-world charm meets rustic elegance, this café emulates the Boschendal philosophy of farm-to-table dining.
A haven of sustainably produced breakfast and light meal options, this is where you can enjoy a delicious and wholesome Green Sarmie.
Location: Boschendal Estate, Pniel St, Groot, Franschhoek, 7680
9. Streetwell
Streetwell is definitely worth a visit! The restaurant is situated on Sweetwell farm, which is one of Stellenbosch’s oldest working livestock farms.
You can definitely taste the quality of the ingredients in all their dishes, and while you’re brunching you might be approached by a roaming chicken or two!
On top of all that, they also boast a deli where you can buy fresh produce and meats for very reasonable prices, so it’s definitely worth a visit in my opinion!
Location: Plot 215, Raithby, Stellenbosch
