Top 10 Cabernet Sauvignons in South Africa
The Christian Eedes Cabernet Sauvignon Report
Stellenbosch Wine Estates came up trumps in the Christian Eedes Cabernet Sauvignon Report.
South African wine guru Christian Eedes, in conjunction with Sanlam Private Investments, created the Christian Eedes Cabernet Sauvignon Report. Avoiding an all-inclusive approach, the Report would be the best of a compilation of 60 high profile wines.
Cabernet Sauvignon is responsible for some of the great wines of Bordeaux and has been taken up in much of the Old and the New Worlds, according to Christian. He believes that this noble grape is a reflection on what’s happening at the top end of a nation’s wine industry and therefor decided to compile the report. Indications are that this will become an annual project for Christian.
The tasting was “blind” and scored on the 20-point/5 Stars system. To decide the top ten those wines that scored 17 and more went through to a second round for closer examination which resulted in the top ten list.
As mentioned all wines were tasted blindly by a panel of three, Christian Eedes, Roland Peens from The Wine Cellar and James Peterson, regular taster for Platter’s and beverage manager for Belthatzar and Balducci’s restaurants at the V&A Waterfront.
