The Khayelitsha Athletics Club was recently given a good reason to smile: 30 new and almost-new running shoes were handed to club members by the Anna Foundation on Friday, 11 May at the Khayelitsha Rugby Stadium.

The shoes were originally given to the Anna Foundation for the Boland farm children with whom they work. Each month the children participate in a local fun run and they had been recommended by the legendary Zola Budd to the American-based NGO, One World Running as the children often run barefoot. “Although we they are most grateful for the shoes, many of them are far too big for the farm children. We wanted them to be used for what they were intended – running – and after doing some homework we found the Khayelitsha Athletic Club were very keen to receive the shoes.” said Carolyn Clark of the Anna Foundation. “Many of the club’s runners can’t afford proper running shoes and the gesture is most appreciated by the young athletes”, said Carolyn. “It is exciting for a non-profit organisation such as the Anna Foundation to be able to “pay it forward” to others in need for a change, as we are most often the recipients.
This is not about the Anna Foundation getting the credit – One World Running has ultimately put a smile on the faces of these athletes!”
