Sring and Summer Trends for the 2012/13 Season
Written by: Adele Pool of Makeover Mayhem
Today I did my monthly ‘walk-through’ Eikestad Mall, Stellenbosch. Just to browse and see what new and exciting shops, boutiques, clothing stores, shoe stores, food stalls etc. opened up since I’ve last beet there, as well as do some ‘trend spotting’.
“Trend Spotting in Stellenbosch?” you ask me! “Yes!” I say.
Although Stellenbosch is a relatively small town, it is still a Student Town. And what’s more, ever since we’ve (and by we I mean whoever is responsible for those kind of things) started upgrading and redoing our local Mall (which used to be absolutely horrendous – I’ve tried to avoid it at any cost!), fashion and trends have been showing up. Although, in my humble opinion, our chain-stores, such as Edgars, Foschini and even Woolies, still stock the very bottom of the range clothes, shoes and accessories.
Luckily I’m starting to see little boutiques and small independent clothing stores opening up all over Stellenbosh. And some of them are actually stocking local designer clothes…local as in Stellenbosch/Cape Town based. Yay!
Although this is not a ‘Rate Stellenbosch Fashion’ or ‘Stellenbosch Clothing Store Review’, I just could not help mentioning some of the shortcomings and of course the welcome influx of the new and exciting. I think I will definitely be doing a review on all the old, new and upcoming boutiques and clothing stores in Stellenbosch.
Back to the topic of this Blog.
While prancing around on my black velvet Zoom platform wedges through Eikestad Mall, I remembered I am in desperate need of a new bra. Seeing that Stellies don’t have a Storm in a G-Cup, La Senza, Temptations, and, and, (need I continue), my obvious choice was Woolies. So in I went. I got my bra and also did some trend spotting.
Although, in my opinion, judging by the Spring 2012/13 Fashion Weeks all over the world, I knew this spring and summer anything goes, but I did not fully realize it until I saw all of it together in abundance in one store.
What stood out for me:
- Colour wise lots of pastels, bright colours from chartrouse, to teal, bright pinks, oranges, and as always, the trusted even blacks and whites.
- Print wise stripes, florals, geometric shapes, and as always animal prints.
- Unstructured flowy dresses, long and short.
- Peplum dresses and skirts.
- Straight leg and skinnies in every thinkable colour.
- Big floppy sun hats, fedora hats…hats in general.
- Big bright dangly bracelets and lots of them.
- Wedges.

In conclusion: this seasonving playing with colour, texture and print, mixing and matching and most importantly…HAVE FUN!
