Stellenbosch MTB Rider Ike Klaassen Jumps On The Podium!
Stellenbosch MTB Rider Ike Klaassen Jumps On The Podium Again In The French Cup DH #2 – Les 2 Alpes
Auvergne – Rhone – Alpes. South African mountain bike sensation Ike Klaassen has won yet another event in the French Cup. This win earned him a second-place overall in the French Cup series, the only races happening right now.
Locally, Klaassen lives in Stellenbosch and has earned himself multiple Western Province Championships.
“Super-sick to win that event,” said an obviously pleased Klaassen. “I won that race by 2 seconds, which I am happy about because usually, the whole top three are within a second.”
Monster Energy athlete Klaassen has been training flat-out in his home town of Stellenbosch. He is one of the few South Africans that managed to get to France to compete recently.
“It’s sick that we’re able to race,” said the excited Monster Energy rider Klaassen. “Most of the factory teams were there, so the level was super high. I’m hyped that I got third! It was probably the hardest track I’ve ever raced. It was so blown out and dusty, and every run the track was completely different. I was one second off first place, so the top three were all within a second. It’s just so good to be racing and able to keep our heads in the game. Hyped!”
Ike has been no stranger to the podium this year. “It was an insanely high level,” added Ike. “I’m super happy with a podium. I’m so hyped we can actually race these French cups. So that we can keep our level up and keep our heads in the game.”
With more DH events set to crop up in Europe, we’ve got our eyes peeled for the Monster Energy team and their continued successes.
Klaassen will continue onto the legendary Audi Nines event, one of the biggest MTB events of the year.
“The Audi Nines is a free ride event happening in Germany, one of the only free ride events happening this year,” said Klaassen. “All the best free riders in the world will be heading out to this event, so that’s going to be exciting.”
