Today the world celebrates World Children’s Day, according to Google, the theme for 2017 is #KidsTakeOver, with UNICEF inviting kids across the globe to take over grown-up roles such as in the media and politics to voice support for children in need.
Here is a poem for by Lathita Beyile That won her a sit at UNICEF and Grey Global Kids Council:
Young child of Africa, unnoticed in the shadows
Overlooked and underestimated everywhere you go
Let your gentle strength be celebrated
Your natural curiosity be practiced,
You are flowers, provoking beauties
You need rights to flourish and bloom and
No one can take that away from you.
Always be responsible, because
Not all may have what you have.
Lead us child, lead us
Into shining future, bright as ever,
A future with never dying streams,
And evergreen trees in the distance.
There is no time to waste.
Don’t let your power and grace wither away.
Child of Africa called by the savannas,
Let your light shine through
Show the power of your potential
Today is your day
Celebrate the right to be a child
This World Children’s day.
