The 2024 general elections were historical – Maimane
Build One South Africa (BOSA) leader, Mmusi Maimane described Wednesday’s elections as “historic.”
Immediately after casting his vote at the Presbyterian Church, Dobsonville, Maimane told the media that it is a new chance for people to choose a new future for South Africa and that people should use that opportunity to usher in change.
He said, “To contest for Building One South Africa, to fight for the next transition in this country, there can never be a greater moment than this one and I feel in myself a deep sense of humanity as well as a sense of nervousness about what all of this could mean.
“But ultimately the confidence to know that we will be part of the generation that will bring change in our nation.”
A few locals spoke to Maimane and shared some of the problems they currently face as Dobsonville residents.
“Some people are telling me right here, right now that they haven’t had electricity, in certain places there is no water, and the unemployment rate is also high in these communities,” said Maimane.
Speaking to the media outside the voting station, Irene Moletsane said she wish for a better South Africa after these elections.
