Eldos dancers have the urge to turn dreams into reality
The Eldorado Park Dance Developmental Academy has made it to the World Lyrical Dance Federation (WLDF) in Dublin, Ireland. The competition will take place from July 31 to August 08 this year.
It is no doubt that South African townships carry a lot of young people who are talents and have big dreams for themselves.
However, the process of unlocking that potential and placing them where they want to be is always inhibited by their insufficient economic status.
Angela Thomas, qualified dance teacher at the academy explains that she has been postponing every year to allow the children who win local dance competitions before they can go compete internationally.
“I had a lot of doubts which have been driving me to continue not allowing my kids to compete abroad.
“I mean I had to think of the reality which is money to help us reach our goals,” said Thomas.
With 20 children who have made it to the WLDF from the academy. Thomas aims to create an environment whereby the youth of Eldorado Park invest their time on things that will bear positive fruits for their future.
Using dance as a tool that teaches them the importance of being present, to be where their feet are. Meaning forgetting the outside noise that constantly reminds them of their limits.
