Soweto Fabulous blows title race wide open
The results would have come as a welcomed surprise to the rest of the title contenders as it now gives them a chance to catch up.
The race for the Gauteng Sasol Women’s League title has been blown wide open after Soweto Fabulous recorded a narrow win against log leaders Croesus.
The highly contested clash was played at the White City Grounds in Jabavu on Saturday, where Soweto Fabulous walked away 1-0 winners. The game itself was action-packed as both sides knew each other’s strengths and that a loos could dent their title hopes.
Croesus came into the match boasting an eye-watering 12 match-winning streak and were seemingly running away with the title unopposed. Fabulous, on the other hand, had not had their best season by their high standards and were barely keeping up with the top three on the table. On the day though, things did not go according to the script. Fabulous managed to score a late goal and defended well to see the game out.

The results would have come as a welcomed surprise to the rest of the title contenders as it now gives them a chance to catch up to Croesus. Fabulous, though, will still be unhappy with their progress this season as they slump in 5th place after twelve games, with eight wins and three losses. But they will find solace in knowing they have two games in hand and still stand a reasonable chance of challenging for the title in the remaining games.
Despite the loss, Croesus remains at the top of the table and will be desperate to reassert their dominance when they take on Springs Home Sweepers at the Greek Sporting Grounds this Saturday.
