Pimville raises awareness on World Environment Day
On World Environment Day, the Pimville Community Centre hosed a campaign to raise awareness about critical environmental issues.
The day has been annually celebrated since 1973 and has grown to be the largest global platform for environmental outreach.
The event aimed at educating the community on sustainable practices and the importance of the environment.
It was also to create awareness about issues affecting the community and environment such as illegal dumping, poor practices of waste management, and burning of things that cause air pollution.
Air Quality Manager from the Department of Forestry, Fishery and Environment (DFFE), Mpendulo Dlamini spoke on air quality management, giving out information to help learners and teachers have a better understanding of air pollution and why it is important to practice air quality management.
The event was organised by EnviroGreen Projects in partnership DFFE, Pikitup, the City of Johannesburg, Organics Recycling Association South Africa (ORASA), Bokashi Bran, and Dr. Motjuwadi Medical Services Incorporated.
