Pelican Light Foundation celebrates World Read Aloud Day
The co-founder of Pelican Light Foundation, Daniel Boshomane said their aim this year was to emphasise the importance of learners knowing how to read and comprehend context.
In celebration of World Read Aloud Day, Pelican Light Foundation together with Miss Soweto 2023 finalist, Motsilisi Goqwana, visited Bapedi Primary School to highlight the importance of reading with meaning.
The aim of this day which is celebrated annually is to encourage residents of all ages to make reading a part of their daily lives as well as to instil a reading culture, especially in young children who are still in their early stages of learning.
This year’s theme for World Read Aloud Day is “Words Are Wings”, which highlights the importance of using positive words to explore a world full of possibilities and how to use them to encourage and inspire those around us.
The co-founder of Pelican Light Foundation, Daniel Boshomane said their aim this year was to emphasise the importance of learners knowing how to read and comprehend context.
“We are huge fans of encouraging learners to read with meaning. Today is a good time for us to consider the positive effects that reading has had on our lives and the significance of spreading the love of reading to others as we celebrate how reading gives us wings and enables us to fly to new heights with this year’s theme,” Boshomane said.
He added that they have also patterned with Diekloof Zone 1 library which always comes through to assist with reading material.
“We have also learned that a lot of young people are now depending on electronic gadgets for information which is somehow a shortcut than when they come and research in the library.
