Cyclists Donate to Aged Home in Soweto
Thousands of cycling enthusiasts led by Jagga’s cycles, recently descended to the Blue Lagoon shops in Moletsane to start a gruelling 30km cycle tour around Soweto and thereafter returned there in about two hours later as part of their efforts to raise awareness and funds for the Soweto Old Age Home.
In an interview with Sunrise News after the event, Lebogang Ditlopo founder and director of Jagga’s cycles, stated that when he thought about problems faced by the Old Age Home in Jabavu, his first reaction was to put his hands in his own pocket, but then he decided to take it to another level altogether by leveraging the size and clout of the group.
He went to the public on the group’s Facebook page with a pledge, challenging all members to do the same. “It was really fascinating to see young people taking part in this initiative, added Ditlopo.
Lucky More, centre manager of Soweto Old Age Home, also expressed his sentiment after receiving “much-needed donations”. “I’m extremely grateful for what we’ve received today. We are moved by this gesture, as this will make a huge difference in the lives of our senior citizens”, added More.
Cyclists donated parcels containing basics such as mealie meals, cabbage and clothes. Essential hygiene cosmetics were also included.
