The City of Johannesburg Department of Community Development, Sports and Recreation Directorate officially launched the Jabulani Safe Hub on the 9th of September 2021.
The Safe hub is a space where the youth in the township are assisted to address the socio-economic challenges by using sports as a vehicle. The Jabulani Safe-Hub programme has a far reach as it focuses on upgrading the area’s CBD.
At the event opening Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Community Development, Cllr Margaret Arnolds said “the state-of-the-art hub now belongs to you. We are encouraging you as residents to safeguard this so that it benefits you as a community. Safeguard it from the social-ills of theft and vandalism. Become ‘friends of this facility where you protect and safeguard this property meant to benefit scores of generations from now. This should be a safe space for your children to develop and nurture their sporting talents but it should also serve as a recreational space for all”.
The Jabulani Safe-Hub has the following facilities:
• A full-size soccer artificial pitch
• Swimming pool
• Outdoor courts and gym facilities
• Kids play area and perimeter fencing.
The next phase (Phase 2) will be the construction of a community centre and administration offices.
