70 pairs of school shoes donated to Faranani Primary School
Teachers had to select the more than 70 learners to be given the shoes on the day and the smiles on their faces proved that it is something that will make them want to keep going to school.
Local security company, Base 5 Guard has embarked on a mission to donate 3000 pairs of shoes this year.
The Protea Glen based company kicked off the campaign in January and will run until Mandela Day which is celebrated on July 18.
This past Friday, the campaign visited Faranani Primary School in Extension 11 where more than 70 pairs of shoes were handed to learners who needed them the most.
Nonhlanhla Moshimane, Base 5 Guard Financial Director said the initiative was inspired by her own upbringing and experience of not having school shoes.
As a way of giving back to the community and making sure that no child goes to school without proper shoes, Moshimane initiated the campaign, targeting schools in Soweto and surrounding areas.
“The aim is to help learners who don’t have school shoes. We started at Mzamo Primary School in Orlando and today we are here at Faranani Primary School to make sure that we continue giving back to our community,” said Moshimane.
“Our theme for this year’s campaign is ‘Together we can’ meaning that we can achieve a lot if we work together with our communities.”
The campaign is not only targeting communities that Base 5 Guard operates in but the aim is to reach as many schools as possible across the province.
