READATHON AMABASSADOR LIGHTS UP LIVES IN ELDORADO PARK
On April 17, Hlubi Mboya, one of South Africa’s most-loved TV actresses and a Readathon Ambassador, visited the pupils attending the Zerowa Christian School in Eldorado Park. This is part of READ’S literacy awareness campaign to drive the joy of reading, and its importance in getting ahead today.
Hlubi Mboya, a graduate of Cape Town’s Rustenbhurg Girls’ High School, brings her love for literature to school children supported by READ, inspiring in them a desire to be like she is – successful, famous, and, above all, literate! Her past visits to a number of schools have proved this.
The annual Readathon is part of READ’s dedication, since 1989, to make literacy a way of life. In addition to school visits by South African celebrities, who read to the learners and encourage them to read, the Readathon includes many other exciting activities.
As the world’s economy becomes increasingly knowledge-based, so the need for literacy among the young has become a priority. Through Hlubi Mboya’s school visits, she enthuses about reading and learners traditionally succumb happily to her passion, heralding a promising future for the country.
