Bongi Mvuyana Unveils Long-Awaited Album, POWER
South Africa’s alternative Soul and House songstress, Bongi Mvuyana, is set to captivate audiences once again with the release of her much-anticipated second studio album, POWER. The album, which marks a bold new chapter in Mvuyana’s music career, will be available on all major streaming platforms on 4 October 2024, with an advanced single dropping on 20th September.
POWER is more than just a collection of songs—it’s an intimate exploration of Mvuyana’s personal journey over the past decade. A self-funded, independent artist, Mvuyana has poured her heart and soul into this album, reflecting on themes of love, loss, and self-discovery. Her storytelling is deeply rooted in her South African heritage, yet enriched with global influences, creating a sound that is both familiar and refreshingly innovative.
“This album represents an era of discovering and expressing my power,” says Mvuyana, who has taken the bold step from her former career as the Regional Strategy Director: Africa of a multinational, to fully embrace her musical path. “I’ve grown so much over the past ten years—not just as an artist, but as a woman. POWER is a reflection of that growth, and I can’t wait to share it with the world.”
The creation of POWER has been a deeply transformative experience for Mvuyana.
Known for her signature long hair, Mvuyana recently made the symbolic decision to cut it—a visual manifestation of her journey toward self-liberation and new beginnings. This transformation is echoed in her music, where she experiments with her voice in ways she never has before, blending elements of jazz, folk, gospel, and electronic influences to create a unique and powerful sound.
“Cutting my hair was a shock, but also incredibly freeing,” Mvuyana shares. “It’s a symbol of the new era I’m entering—one of maturity, wisdom, and embracing my true self. This album is about finding the beauty in who I am right now.”
To complement the new album, Mvuyana will also launch the POWER tour, which promises to be an extraordinary live experience, featuring Mvuyana’s dynamic band and a performance that will bring the album’s vibrant energy to life. Fans can expect to be moved by her captivating vocals, compelling storytelling, and the electrifying fusion of sounds that define her music.
Tickets for the POWER tour, which kicks off on 17 October and will take in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town, will be available on Quicket, and fans are encouraged to secure theirs early, as these shows are expected to sell out quickly.
Bongi Mvuyana extends her heartfelt thanks to her family for their unwavering support throughout her journey. “I am because they are,” she says, expressing deep gratitude for the foundation they have provided her.
