Thank you to student group Interact for
Rhenish Girls High School student group, Interact, chose the Kayamandi Women and Children Development Project as the recipient of a large donation of toiletries and sanitary products this last week.
The packages contained a range of desperately needed items such as deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, as well as sanitary products, amongst many others.
At the handover on the 20 April was 16-year-old matric student and deputy chair of Interact, Yvonne, and her two young colleagues, Tessa and Palisa. These young women leaders played a key role in the collection of these products, as well as selecting our project as the recipient. “Ever since last year,” Yvonne says, “our school has had this mantra that says ‘Empowered Women, Empower Women’, so then I thought that maybe as a project for this term, our project could actually put our words into action.” As Tessa said, “Behind this [donation] is a school that really cares about the community, and when people saw that students were starting to bring stuff, everyone else wanted to join in and help out.”
All three students agreed that it was a very positive experience for them.
We would like to extend a big thank you to the Interact Group, as well as everyone at Rhenish Girls High School, who contributed to this wonderful gesture.
Donations such as these are essential for providing the daily basic dignity that so many in our community go without. If you are interested in making a donation to our project, please see our donations and wishlist page for more details.
