#GIVEAHANDUP TO GRADE RR’S AT #CHSA
DONATE NOW AND #GIVEAHANDUP TO NEW GRADE RR’S
Christel House South Africa, a non-profit school that serves students from severely impoverished areas on the Cape Flats, is appealing to the public to support its #GiveaHandUp campaign, which raises funds for essential school supplies for its new Grade RR students.
The school will be adding Grade RR to its Early Childhood Development offering for the first time in its 20-year history. Construction of the three classes is complete and will accommodate 20 students per class for enrolment in July 2021.
These 60 deserving Grade RR students will all be recruited from households where the average income is less than R1 500 per person per month, making back-to-school supplies a luxury that these parents simply cannot afford.
The new Grade RR students will need school shoes, uniforms, a backpack, learning materials and educational toys, as well as fortified porridge that contains essential nutrients for growing children. For as little as R150, R500 or R1200 (the price of a full starter kit), you could give a Grade RR’s a hand upon their 19-year learning journey with Christel House. The school offers a holistic character-based and career-focused education model that yields exceptional results, such as a recent 100% matric pass rate and a 99% matric pass rate average since inception. Quality education is coupled with poverty mitigation services in the form of daily transport to school and back, professional health care, nutritious meals, psychosocial counselling, family assistance and college and careers planning and support.
South African donors who donate before 5 May and leave their contact details on GivenGain will be entered into a lucky Mother’s Day raffle and receive one of four exciting prizes, including UCOOK meal vouchers and natural skincare packages from Mélan Skincare.

More about Christel House
Christel House South Africa is a non-profit school with a single mission: to break the cycle of poverty. It offers no-fee scholarships to students from some of Cape Town’s poorest neighbourhoods and support them for 19 years (Grade RR to Grade 12 and five years post matric) through character-based and career-focused education. The school’s beneficiaries include 762 students from grade RR to 12, 250+ post-matric students and more than 3000 parents and other members of the communities it serves.
The main criterion for admission to Christel House is not evidence of talent – but evidence of poverty, one measure of which is a maximum average income of R1,500 per household member per month. Key aspects of Christel House’s model include poverty mitigation services in the form of daily transport to school and back, professional health care, nutritious meals, psychosocial counselling, family assistance and college and careers planning and support.
Christel House transforms the lives of its students and helps to build self-sufficient, contributing members of society.
