After the highly anticipated track ‘President’ as well as three other radio playlisted tracks, Taboo Mentality felt compelled to compose an album that would be taken in high esteem. Vibin, the first track off the EP has become quite popular amongst their fans and the music video generated some really good views.
The group members are hoping to receive the same hype around the other tracks on their EP titled, What Do You Wys which they consider to be an essential part of Taboo Mentality’s testimony.
The artists’ Darian , Steve and Ziyaad combined their talents in 2015 after realising a mutual love for music. With each member having their own unique frame of reference and each working in entirely different industries, it allowed for an enhanced ability to create timeless music as each of them brings their own personalised genre of music to the sound of Taboo.
The track ‘Grind’ amongst other tracks, personifies the hustle that can sometimes be detrimental to a relationship(including family and friends). This track embodies the title with a jazzy, trap, hip hop feel to it.The track ‘What do you wys’ is a title derived from Capetonian slang; expressing “to each his own”. This is also the title of their EP which is why they went for a very expressive hardcore hip hop sound. Believing in what you stand for and having the attitude to go with it is crucial in building a career and on this track Taboo Mentality simply addresses this topic.
As a group they aspire create material that resonate with real people and relate to the daily experiences South Africans have. Taking the above mentioned into consideration, this EP clearly has more meaning than just a few tracks “thrown together”. It is the realisation of a lifelong dream.
Sacrificing long nights after dedicated 12 hour shifts to a dayjob. Injecting their own hard earned money into this dream is the toughest part, all while living paycheck to paycheck.
“We believe this EP will give everyone a taste of our passion and love for the game”
The album will soon be available on iTunes and Spotify together with all major platforms. They are also in the process of creating Taboo Mentality merchandise.
