Umnenge Boat based Fishing Charters, Gansbaai
Richard Searle of Umnenge Charters is the only fully compliant and licensed commercial deep-sea-fishing tour operator in the Gansbaai Area. The boat has everything you need for fishing and more importantly, the skipper knows all the good fishing spots. His aim is to make this a memorable fishing trip, with the biggest possible fish caught.
The Umnenge Charters boat is a commercially licensed 18ft z-craft invader with two independent Yamaha 70hp engines. The boat has 68% positive flotation and all the required safety equipment to ensure a trouble free cruise. The boat is fitted with state-of-the-art navigation and sonar equipment including VHF and 28meg radios, and, for your pleasure, a CD player and hi-fi.
The Gansbaai area offers excellent bottom and reef fish. Red roman, hottentots, jaco peaver, carpenter, steenbras, stumpnose and crayfish (in season). There are also game fish, such as geelbek, yellowtail and snoek in season.
If you are a beginner, Richard will do everything to make your trip fun, and to ensure success. If you are an experienced angler, you will find the fishing a technical challenge that is very different from other parts of the coast. Either bring your own licence, or if required, Richard will arrange a fishing licence for you.
What do you do with your catch? You can either return to Umnenge Lodge, also owned by Richard and his wife Mary, where they will prepare and braai the fish for you, or Richard can arrange for you to have your fish prepared to your liking, at an excellent restaurant close by.
What to bring: Richard supplies snack biscuits, chips and cold drinks. You must supply other beverages yourself or make prior arrangements with Richard. Bring suitable clothing and a warm jacket, as the weather can be unpredictable. Very important: Sun-hat and sunblock. Water sunburn can be severe.
Umnenge Lodge is a reasonably priced 4-star accommodation option right at the sea in De Kelders, just a few kilometres from Gansbaai.
