Oak Valley Mountain Bike Trails, Grabouw, Western Cape
The Oak Valley winemaker, Pieter Visser, a keen mountain biker himself, established the Oak Valley Mountain Bike Trail near Grabouw in the Western Cape Overberg region, in 2008. The trail was good enough to stage the Cape Epic riders in 2009, and received the trophy for the Best Stage Location in the competition.
The trails start and finishes in the oak-lined avenues at the entrance of the Estate. There are 3 marked routes: a 14 kilometre Green Route for the family; a 21 kilometre Red Route for stronger riders; and the 25 kilometre Black Route for more advanced riders.
The trails consist mainly of well-maintained single track, with bridges over farm fences and streams, making for a highly enjoyable ride through beautiful natural scenery, including forests of ancient oak trees, vineyards, apple and pear orchards, and across sub-clover/grass pastures, set against the stunning backdrop of the protected fynbos on the slopes of the Groenlandberg Mountain.
Due to the mix of terrain, we recommend you use a good all round tyre. The fee is R30 per rider, payable at the security office located at the Estate’s entrance gate. The trail has been described by expert mountain bikers as the best of its kind in the Western Cape – a 5 star experience!
If you’re thirsty after the ride please visit our Tasting Room 200 metres from the farm gates and enjoy a free wine tasting. The Tasting Room is open from 8:30am to 5pm on weekdays and from 10:00am to 2pm on Saturdays.
Secure parking, picnic tables and cloakrooms with toilet and shower facilities are available. Remember to bring your own towels and toiletries.
