Augrabies

Augrabies is a small town not far from the town of Kakamas and part of the Kakamas district of the Northern Cape, in the ‘Green Kalahari’. While the Kakamas district is described as a green belt vineyard area on the banks of the Orange River, the name Augrabies is more commonly associated with the Augrabies Falls and the surrounding moonscape of the Augrabies National Park, and few know of the little town of Augrabies, which is located on the border of the Augrabies Fall National Park, where the green belt gives way to the rocky granite of the non-irrigated land in the Park.

Augrabies is a last stop for supplies – grab a few packs of Kakamas produced raisins and other dried fruit – you couldn’t get better sustenance for the physical demands of the hikes in the hot, dry and mirage-inducing Augrabies National Park.
