Bloemhof

Bloemhof is a very small town in the Southern District of the North West Province, very near the Free State border. Primary attractions are the Bloemhof Dam on the Vaal River, surrounded by the Bloemhof Nature Reserve (on the North West side of the Vaal) and the Sandveld Nature Reserve (on the Free State side).

Bloemhof has an unusual number of accommodation establishments for a town of its size, due to the steady, annual influx of freshwater angling enthusiasts and fishing competition competitors from all over South Africa and the world, who flock to the Bloemhof Dam to enjoy record size catches of carp and catfish and to compete in South Africa’s top angling competitions.

Getting there: Bloemhof is situated on the N12 about 3 hours drive west from Johannesburg, and bout 2 hours from Potchefstroom.
