Brits, Bojanala Platinum, North West Province

Brits, North West Province, South Africa

Brits is a large town serving a mining and agricultural area in the Bojanala Platinum region of the North West Province, surrounded by farmlands and tucked at the foot of the the most ancient mountain range in the world – the rounded  and weathered Magaliesberg.

Although Brits has experienced significant growth in the past decade thanks to mining activities, the lush surrounds, irrigated via numerous canals by the Hartbeespoort Dam, are perfect for the cultivation of crops, flowers and sub-tropical fruits, including oranges.

Attractions in or near Brits include the De Wildt Cheetah Sanctuary and the Margaret Roberts Herb Garden as well as the various activities in and around nearby Hartbeespoort, Rustenburg and Pretoria. The surronding area also features many private game reserves and lodges.

The lovely Borakalalo National Park lies just 40km north of Brits, and the nearby Vaalkop Dam Nature Reserve just over an hour’s drive north -west of Brits is popular for angling and birding.

Getting there: Brits lies en-route from Pretoria to Rustenburg N4, just north of Hartbeespoort.
