New Faraway George single, Hey Sister, puts emphasis on family relationships!
The well-known folk singer Faraway George who was born in Pietersburg (Polokwane), and now lives with his wife on a farm in the mountains in Magoebaskloof, Tzaneen, was greatly influenced by Jazz as a young boy and started playing the guitar as a teenager.
He signed up to study architecture but halted his studies to pursue a career in music. His debut EP Vir ’n Vreemdeling was released in 2016, but early 2020 he released his much-anticipated new album, Burnt & Found.
The first two singles taken from this album were Sugar Cane and Armour and it impressed fans, music critics and plays on radio stations nationwide on a regular basis. He is now following it up with the release of his third single from this album, titled, Hey Sister. The essence of this song is to stay in contact with your family after leaving the nest and it also flows from his own pen, like all his other songs.
“When I went to study and left home, I realised how much I missed my brother and sister. I even started appreciating the times when they worked on my nerves because I realised it was times that I had spent with them. There’s a part in the song where I sing – why won’t you bother me? – That is exactly what it is about. It makes you realise that you have to make time for your family and each other and that you have to enjoy one another in this life”, he says about his latest release.
His music can be described as a blend of Folk Acoustic and Indie complemented by definite hints of Country. His music inspires you to return to a state of appreciation for people and separate what is important in life from the noise of earthly things.
Faraway George is currently writing songs for other artists again and anyone interested can make contact with him at info@farawaygeorge.co.za
He will also be live on stage again with fellow musicians, Joshua na die Reën, Stella and Leon Gropp in Carolina at Acorn Guest Farm on 30 October 2020 and tickets are available at raindust.co
“My hope is that everyone that listens to this song will make an effort to spend more time with their family and just pick up the phone and phone them”, he concludes.
