Alldays, Soutpansberg Region, Limpopo

Alldays and surrounding area, Limpopo, South Africa

Alldays is a tiny bushveld town in the Soutpansberg Region of the Limpopo Province, north-west of Louis Trichardt, and just south of the Mapungubwe National Park (the Transfrontier Park), the Pontdrift Border Post and the ‘Tuli Block’ – a magnificent ‘Safari’ destination, known for its huge herds of plains game, north of where the border between Botswana and Zimbabwe intersects with the South African border near Pontdrift.

The bushveld countryside around Alldays can be dry due to scorching temperatures and only periodic rainfall, but it is ruggedly beautiful and magnificent in its ‘Texas in Africa’ size and hot shimmering Mopane bushveld vistas. The landscape is also dotted with Baobab trees and salt pans.  There are several private game farms and hunting lodges in the Alldays area, and the Limpopo River, lined with lush riverine forest, provides welcome greenery and superb game viewing.

Alldays might be tiny – a place you’d stop for fuel and supplies on your way north or west to Botswana, but the hamlet boasts at least one unusual feature that is a tourist draw in itself. Alldays is known for its giant trees, mostly Baobabs but also fig trees and Nyala trees, and a magnificent Nyala tree in Alldays itself spreads over 100 square metres.

Alldays Game Lodges, South AfricaThe Alldays area offers excellent game lodge accommodations, a few shops, eateries, a bushveld ‘drinking hole’ in Alldays itself and various other amenities and services for hunters and tourists wanting to explore the area between the Blouberg Mountains and the border.

Activities on offer in or from Alldays and surrounding bushveld lodges include air safaris, game drives, tours to Mapangubwe National Park and other local sites (often offered for the wives and children who accompany their hunting partners but don’t want to take part themselves) and walking trails.

Other Attractions in the Alldays area includes the guided 3 day Limpopo Wilderness Hiking Trail along the Limpopo River at the border, and rock climbing in the Blouberg mountains south of Alldays, which can be arranged through the Alldays Mountain Club.

Crocodile - Limpopo RiverVarious wildlife attractions in the area include crocodile viewing at the Ratho and Pama Crocodile Farms on the Limpopo River on the border 60km from Alldays, and Big 5 game viewing at a number of private reserves and lodges in the Alldays area and over the border. The Tuli Private Game Reserve offers luxury safaris and accommodation.

The Langjan Nature Reserve is only 24km south of Alldays, and Mapangubwe is just over an hour’s drive north on the R521.

Other regional attractions near Alldays include the Blouberg Nature Reserve in the Blouberg Mountains, just over an hour away.

Alldays is also on an hour’s drive from the De Beers Venetia Limpopo Nature Reserve and the Venetia Diamond Mine – South Africa’s largest producer of diamonds.

Getting there: Alldays is located on the R521, about 2 hours drive from Polokwane via Vivo.
