Former ANC member Kumi Naidoo is urging high-ranking ANC officials to reduce their salaries by 50% and live in the communities they purport to serve.
The human rights activist addressed President Cyril Ramaphosa, Deputy President Paul Mashatile, and ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula in an open letter posted on social media.
Naidoo, emphasizing his perspective as both a former ANC member and a concerned citizen, called on the Cabinet and Parliament to demonstrate their commitment by significantly cutting their salaries.
He proposed the idea that, in the face of budget concerns, politicians should reside in the very communities they claim to represent, citing Yeoville as an example.
Naidoo offered assistance in finding affordable housing, suggesting that experiencing the daily hardships of communities could lead to positive change.
