La Ferme Fly Fishing, Franschhoek, Cape Winelands

La Ferme Fly Fishing Franschhoek

La Ferme, 45 minutes from Cape Town and right in the heart of the Cape Winelands, offers excellent fly fishing with exquisite views and absolute silence. This spot is perfect for a weekend getaway with accommodation in quaint self-catering log cabins on the property, or for just a day of fly fishing in the four unique lined dams, teaming with Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, Bass, Carp and Witfis – more than enough action to make any fly fishing fanatic very happy. If you bring the kids, there is a special dam just for kids using bait.

Kick back and relax at the beautiful dams, chairs, rugs, picnic and most importantly, rods, flies and other fishing paraphernalia. Braai facilities around the dams make for socialising with buddies or family.

La Ferme Fly Fishing Franschhoek

Of the four dams on the farm, the trout dams are strictly for fly fishing while the others are stocked with Bass and Carp to suit fishermen who want to use spinners, lures and bait. The dams are incredibly well looked after and catching is normally on the cards. Kick Boats and waders welcome except during competitions. The Wemmers River runs through La Ferme. There are natural Brown and Rainbow trout in the river, although not easily visible. You don’t have to book to fish unless you require lessons. Parking is available, right next to the dams and there is a small shop which sells flies.

Bring your own food as there are no restaurants on La Ferme, and if you need to buy in food, Franschhoek is only 5 minutes away, with every possible choice of grub. This spot is the perfect venue for a picnic. Your own picnic baskets are welcome. There are limited permanent tables and chairs under shaded areas, but you are welcome to bring your own fold up chairs and umbrellas and weber braai’s.

Camping facilities are also available for larger parties (school groups, corporate functions etc) – you simply need to bring your tent with you.

Open for day fishermen and day guests from 08h00 to 17h00 and closes at 16h00 on Fridays.

Undoubtedly, this region is most famous for its award-winning and truly beautiful wine farms, each of which offers its patrons a unique experience. If you can tear yourself away from the tranquil fly fishing, the Motor Museum on L’Omarins Wine Estate and the Red Hot Glass factory at Spice Routes Winery are popular attractions.
