Annual School Tour Visits Six Schools
The 60 Minutes Fight Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse Annual School Tour Visits Six Schools
The 60 Minutes Fight Against Drug and Alcohol Abuse annual school tour was a huge success having toured 6 schools and delivered 7 presentations in 2018.
The schools toured this year were KwaHluzinqondo High, Esizibeni High, Umzinto Secondary, Queensburg Girls High, Mowat Park Girls High and Crawford College.
Thousands of pupils benefited from a show that had contributors participating largely as volunteers. This year’s message was, like others an educational one and centred its message on the negative impacts of drug abuse and how it has the power to derail or end one’s future.
The presentation had a high quality of real past experiences of recovering addicts who were at The Cedars Treatment Centre at the time of the production who shared their stories in an attempt to enlighten the viewers about the reality of addiction and possibly curb any experimentation with addictive substances.
The event was all the more powerful as pupils at some schools came forward to ask for help and advice was readily offered by well-trained parties and members who have been down the road of addiction and up the road of recovery.
None of this would have been possible without the support of our generous sponsors. We are sincerely grateful to our 2018 sponsors Sappi, Delta-Experts, Olivia Jones Communications, Atlanta Spur, Grand Rapid Spur, The Coffee Lounge, Lightness Productions, Raw Photography, Tru Print, R & M Construction, Sagatronics, Distil Consulting, R & B Group, Rongotai Trading and Water Dynamix. The Cedars Treatment Centre is specially appreciated for allowing their patients to partake in this initiative. This shows selflessness and a willingness to contribute to the building of a brighter future for our youth short of the impediments that substance abuse has on one’s life.
“Thank you to all for your support, and for helping to make our annual school tour such an exciting, educational, rewarding and productive event,” commented Brighton Hlatswayo, the Managing Director: Lightness Productions.
