Wendywood Primary show Hearts of Hope
Hirschs Fourways recently celebrated World Sleep Day with some fun community ideas. Together with Cloud Nine and Rest Assured they came come up with an activation to see how many GRADE 4 learners could fit onto one queen size bed for at least 30 seconds. “This took place at Wendywood Primary School in Sandton. They are a school who pride’s themselves in always striving for the best in all Academic and Sporting realms. They also pride themselves in looking out for the community as far as they possibly can. In the Hirsch’s CNRA World Sleep Day activation, the school came second regionally and nationally with a total of 47 children, which is a huge achievement. Much fun was had by the children and staff and it was fitting that everyone gathered at Wendywood Primary for the official hand-over of the mattresses to Deborah van Dongen from Hearts of Hope. Their Operations Manager Lori Lowe took delivery of the mattresses which were immediately put to work. “
Commenting on the Activation, Chief Operations Officer of Hirsch’s, Margaret Hirsch said “Sleep is such an important part of our lives, particularly for young children. What we have found, when we visit underprivileged pre schools in the areas in which we operate is that sometimes the children don’t have anywhere to sleep during their lunch break-time. Most stay on until the evening when their parents pick them up, and that midday sleep is vital for them. Cloud 9 and Rest Assured came on board with us to donate 3 sponge mattresses. This was donated to Heart of Hope Children’s Home in Wendywood, Sandton who happens to be the charity of choice for both Hirsch’s Fourways as well as Wendywood Primary.”
Hearts of Hope Home is a worthy cause and they always welcome food stuff, like long life milk, tinned foods, nappies and lots of soft toys as well. “They look after children from new-born babies right up to 18 year olds. They care for abandoned as well as HIV babies, and are doing an amazing job. They not only love them and care for them as you would expect, they also have a development program to educate them and equip them for their futures whether they remain in the facility or get adopted or re-united.
