LEARN BUILDING TIPS AND TRICKS AT BUILDERS’ DESIGN HOUSE FEATURING AT DECOREX JOBURG
Africa’s largest décor, design and lifestyle exhibition, Decorex Joburg – presented by Plascon – promises audiences an immersive DIY experience in the latest feature, Builders Design House. This revolutionary home improvement concept will form part of the extensive 25th milestone #rhythmoflife programme, all taking place at the Gallagher Convention Centre from 8 to 12 August.
Builders are renowned for carrying the latest and widest range of quality products with staff members to offer the best services, used to building and maintenance contractors, home improvement and DIY enthusiasts as well as those looking to undertake any gardening.
“Every year, Builders manages to bring something truly inspired to Decorex Joburg, and audiences are going to be captivated by the latest feature,” said Sian Cullingworth, Portfolio Director at Decorex SA. “DIY is such a big trend at the moment and Builders will be empowering homeowners with the resources and motivation to get straight to work on those dream projects.”
Design House – brought to you by Builders will feature an interactive virtual reality experience that will capture the interest of all Decorex visitors, young and old. They will also be hosting an onsite competition with great Builders prizes ready to be won.
Unmissable demonstrations
Adding to this unique Builder’s feature will be three of South Africa’s leading creatives – Tanya Visser, Elle Franco and Pilani Bubu – all of whom will be on-hand to share their unique landscaping and home improvement tips and tricks.
Tanya Visser, South Africa’s favourite gardener, will discuss and showcase trends related to all things horticultural.
“Space is an issue these days so I will be demonstrating how to create a vertical garden which can be done so simply,” explained Visser. “You can grow a variety of plants, including herbs and vegetables while saving space.”
Another space-conscious horticultural demonstration will be the growing and maintaining of indoor terrariums: “Miniature is set to be a trend across décor and landscaping which is why the terrarium is such a great feature. I’ll explain how to grow plants in this intimate space, and how to keep them alive.”
Visser said that overall wellbeing was another trend trickling down from Europe, and this was being translated into the inclusion of indoor plants: “Even in a room with the best décor and design, space will only truly come alive with the addition of an indoor plant. The greenery lifts the spirits and generally improves the wellbeing of those using the space. I will demonstrate the growth and care for indoor plants across the home.”
Elle Franco’s knowledge of DIY has been projected across the nation’s screens, radios and various publications. She will be taking the time to share her best DIY tips with audiences at Design House – brought to you by Builders.
“Because spring is around the corner, I’ve centred my DIY projects around the outdoors and patio living,” explained Franco. “I will show the audience how to DIY table top, fun-family board games like tic tac toe and chess, using inexpensive elements like garden pebbles. And no outdoor gathering is complete without snacks – so I will demonstrate how to make serving trays and a puzzle serving board!”
Franco said, remaining with the outdoors, she would feature a pot plant stand, ideal for the patio corners.
Advising on DIY trends, she stated: “DIY follows home design trends and some great trends for the latter half of 2018 are bold, bright, rich colours to decorate your home. Be brave, ditch the beige and get colourful!”
TV presenter and interior stylist, Pilani Bubu, will bring her high-energy and passion to the feature, talking to the audience through a variety of décor elements.
“I will be sharing inspirational ideas and tips using Builders’ products to style the set and more inspiration on mood boards, inspired by the Builders’ catalogue,” she explained.
Some topics she will cover include what different textures can do for your space; the purpose of light; feature walls and focal points as intentional decorative expressions; how to get colour right; and where pattern lives well; among others.
“I’m also excited to share my views on décor trends, where we are now and what’s happened to previous trends. Colour is always a great one for forecast and reflection – what happened to ultra violet? Can we keep our greenery? We’ll also delve into metal finishes – copper, rose, gold – and where we are now. I’ll discuss modern to contemporary design styles and furniture, referencing the relevant accessories and fixtures.”
