SA TO HOST INTERNATIONAL EXPO SPEARHEADING AFRICAN TRADE OPPORTUNITIES
Africa’s largest product sourcing & trade event, the South African International Trade Exhibition (SAITEX), will see government officials, diplomats, manufacturers, entrepreneurs and business leaders from across the globe gather at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, Johannesburg from 24 to 26 June to network, debate and explore Africa’s import and export opportunities.
Brad Hook of dmg events, organiser of the continent’s premier hospitality and F&B shows says, “With a surge in business confidence across Southern Africa, SAITEX is the ideal platform for industry to to network and do business with both local and international exhibitors. The expo will showcase the latest innovations and potentially result in trade agreements for local and international partners.”
The introduction of a conference, the Trade Development Forum – to run alongside the three-day Exhibition – empowering trade development with Africa & the regions premier multi sector show providing unparalled access to all industries connecting exports, top brands and manufacturers with importers, distributors and retailers providing the ideal platform for intra Africa trade discussions, SADC country spotlights and provincial showcases will also see industry experts discuss and debate key strategies relating to intra-Africa trade, including the new African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).
Hook says, “The conference is intended to give guests the opportunity to share their ideas and build a more comprehensive understanding of the challenges relating to African trade, as well as the solutions which are now available in the market.”
The executive Mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Herman Mashaba will be delivering the official opening address, “Trade and investment: Why Gauteng, Why now” on Monday 25 June at 11:45am to be followed by Sipho Zikode.
Hook says, “The keynote address – by Sipho Zikode, Deputy Director General of the DTI – will also delve into the role that Special Economic Zones play as trade channels, providing great insight on the future of trade in South Africa – the gateway to Sub-Saharan Africa.”
A total of 15 speakers will take part in the Forum, discussing topics such as which Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries are leading the pack, how trade relates to issues of manufacturing, investment and economic development, and key programmes to be implemented by the Gauteng government.
