ISC Bathroom Trends Project at Decorex
TOP STYLISTS TAKE ON ISCA BATHROOM TRENDS PROJECT AT DECOREX JOBURG
The best in bathroom designs and products will be showcased by three of South Africa’s top creatives at the ISCA Bathroom Trends Project, forming part of the 25th Decorex Joburg, presented by Plascon. The leading décor, design and lifestyle exhibition will be taking place at the Gallagher Convention Centre from 8 to 12 August.
“Bathrooms are taking a much more stylistically-inspired role within the home and this year’s ISCA Bathroom Trends Project will demonstrate exactly how homeowners can revolutionise this space,” Sian Cullingworth, Portfolio Director at Decorex SA. “Top designers will upgrade the basic bathroom setting using the latest furniture, accessories and fixtures available.”
John Westermeyer, Chief Marketing Officer, LIXIL Africa, said: “We are excited to be featuring at Decorex Joburg this year – it’s the perfect platform to share ISCA’s latest interior trends and tap couture, allowing visitors to engage with the influencers to get inspiration to do it themselves at home. It’s a great opportunity to show people how they can live beautifully and get the look for less with ISCA.”
Sponsored by ISCA – South Africa’s go-to brand for kitchen and bathroom taps and mixers – this project will feature two bathroom settings that exude the latest trends for spring and summer. The first will be curated by season 4 winners of the SABC3 Win-a-Home competition, Abiah ‘Abiahsuperstar’ Mahlase and Bradley Muttitt, while a renowned Lovilee blogger, Karen Kelly AKA KaRi, will be taking on the second bathroom setting. The design trio has been selected as ISCA influencers and will give Decorex visitors a unique insight into the latest 2018 interior trends.
Fresh from their SABC3 Win-a-Home victory, Abiah and Brad – the creators of AMEN fashion line – will be channelling their combined creative experience into this exciting feature. They have been tasked with creating a colourful and quirky trend, termed ‘Urban Playground’ by ISCA.
“Bathrooms are becoming as beautiful as any room in the house,” explained Abiah. “Over the years, bathrooms have been modernised and decorated to stay on trend. Bathrooms should not only be a functional space but a space that a person can enjoy and incorporate ongoing styles.”
Elaborating on the Urban Playground trend, Abiah said: “It’s one for the new city dweller and sees an optimistic and bold use of colour with urban inspiration like street art. It’s very playful and youthful but also resourceful, repurposing DIY elements for maximum effect.”
Visitors can expect to be wowed by the duo’s implementation of the ‘razzle and dazzle’, using lots of primary colours, incorporating street art with functional, yet fun, industrially-designed products for the bathroom.
Multi-award-winning South African LOVILEE blogger, KaRi, will draw on her penchanct for DIY and hand-crafted projects in the ‘Future Folk’ trend. This is a contemporary take on the utilitarian nature of art and culture which demonstrates the desire to bring the outdoors into the living space through the use of materials in their most natural forms. From lush, abundant greenery to chunky, hand-spun textures, Future Folk is a celebration of simplicity, clean lines and seamless living.
Commenting on the feature, KaRi said: “This is a trend that embraces a nostalgic look and feel with a modern take. It is an evolution of the grounded trend, inspired by the longing that we have to reconnect with our roots, where we came from before we were absorbed up into all the stress and rush of this world.”
Colours to expect include sandy neutrals, blush tones and corals, combined with mustards and touches of chartreuse – a palette that leans towards a warmer colour scale.
“Think textured linens, tassels, loose weaves, colour block spaces with curated ornaments that bring the space together,” she continued. “There will be some inspirational DIY that will be easy to replicate.”
Commenting on the role of the modern bathroom, KaRi said: “This used to be a functional space with little attention given to the décor and personal details. It is a place where you can de-stress in a hot bath at the end of the day, close the door to the world outside for a brief moment.”
In addition to the décor features, visitors will get to engage with The Pro Tour Truck which is the first mobile showroom of its kind on the continent. It will showcase all LIXIL’s leading brands – Cobra, ISCA, GROHE, Vaal and Libra – in an intimate space, with fully functional products for a really hands-on experience.
