Double the design in the @home Trend Home presented by Decorex
For the milestone 25th Decorex Joburg – presented by Plascon – the creative team is doubling up on the innovative @home Trend Home presented by Decorex installation which will feature a two-storey setting boasting the latest @home homeware store and @home living space pieces. This is another stylish addition to the extensive features’ programme that will be impressing audiences at Gallagher Convention Centre from 8 to 12 August.
The @home Trend Home presented by Decorex – curated by Creative Director of Decorex, Anita Bloom and her inspired team – gives a real-world taste of the latest #rhythmoflife trends and how they can be cleverly incorporated into the modern home. This year the team will be collaborating with leading suppliers, @home and @home living space; Bang & Olufsen; Time Brandits; Sugar Plum Interiors Bathroom; Stone Library featuring Franke and Caesarstone in the kitchen; Plascon, Wire World; Fundi Living & Lighting; with wooden laminate flooring by Selborne Flooring Distributors.
“For this particular Decorex Joburg @home Trend Home, we’ve decided to go with a much darker, moodier palette – Night Moss (B2-E1-1) with softer greys and blacks coming through in the furniture, contrasted against the warmer mixed metals and glassware,” explained Bloom.
Commenting on the @home Trend Home feature, Renee New, @home Head of Marketing, said: “We are excited about introducing sophisticated touches of gold in our furniture, which sit perfectly with the more natural woods and opulent velvets in our range.”
Plascon Media Stylist and Colour Specialist, Kerstin Eser said, “The @home Trend Home will demonstrate how the contrast between dark colours like Night Moss, and textures such as metal and glass, convey a sense of warmth tinged with the slightest touch of drama in a sophisticated, clean and contemporary way. We can’t wait for Decorex visitors to see this effect.”
Still dominating the décor trends is the Scandinavian concept of Hygge, a minimalist style that expresses simplicity and comfort. This will be complemented by some elements of Wabi Sabi, a Japanese-inspired trend that is about finding beauty in imperfection.
“Hygge infers cosiness or good social atmosphere, found in anything from a roaring fire to a perfect pair of lumpy socks,” explained Bloom. “Hygge functions as a driver for happiness on an everyday basis which is said to make you happier and healthier. We’re seeing this working well with the Wabi Sabi trend which is brought in through in weathered wood, worn furniture, wrinkled linen and handmade materials.”
Bloom said the @home Trend Home will be a culmination of the #rhythmoflife trends that encapsulate this year’s Decorex Joburg: “We want to show visitors the options that abound while also encouraging them to find their own unique rhythm in their own home spaces.”
Other captivating trends visitors can expect to see are the Elevated Organics, Refreshed Jewel Tones, Mixed Metals, Large-scale Wall Art, Room Dividers, Metal Design Furniture and Homeware and Styling (greenery). These will be expressed through a variety of @home décor items such as the wrippled-cut glassware and cutlery reflecting imperfections of the Wabi Sabi; the Homeware Styling and Hygge flowing through the wooden accents of bowls and dishes; with expansive wall mirrors as an example of the Large-scale Wall Art.
“We’ve selected blush velvet dining chairs to contrast against the dark green walls,” continued Bloom. “Upstairs will showcase a home office in white with soft grey sofa and gold using white office accessories on the desk. Candles will create a soothing ambience and the aluminium statues will bring in the Metal Design Furniture trend.”
The @home Trend Home presented by Decorex is about creating a sanctuary to escape the busy Joburg city life: “The colour change is more appealing to a Joburg home as the green beautifully contrasts the artificial, man-made structures of the ‘concrete jungle’. It’s about creating a safe, comforting space where the pace is slowed through colour and subtle touches of décor and design.”
Eser added, “Decorex’s #rhythmoflife theme and the various décor and design trends that are represented at the show resonate with how we place the individual at the heart of the paint selection process. With so many styles and colours to choose from, we hope to help them choose the ones that reflect their own sense of individuality to create a space which they can be proud of and happy to live in.”
