Hirsch’s puts smiles on the faces of the children
A team from Hirsch’s Strubens Valley, armed with Mc Donalds® Happy Meals and a bag full of Toys all beautifully gift wrapped, recently visited the local Children’s Home to spread some Christmas Cheer.
Ikholwa Childrens Home is a registered Children’s Home and non-profit organisation which gives hope and improved life to abandoned and orphaned children who have been affected by the AIDS pandemic in South Africa. The home is situated in Weltevreden Park, Roodepoort. It doesn’t receive government funding and runs purely on donations and kindness from the local community. At the moment the home houses 19 children ranging from babies to 18 years old. All the staff are volunteers.
A collection was held from staff at Hirsch’s Strubens Valley who all donated generously towards this cause.
Each child was given a meal and a personal age-appropriate gift. Hirsch PRO Raquel Holdsworth said ‘We take it for granted that a simple Mc Donalds meal is a pure luxury to these children, it is so humbling to see the happy smiles on their faces.’
Elsa de Swardt, Social worker on duty said ‘the children and myself are very grateful to be treated today and a huge thank you to the team from Hirsch’s for spoiling the children’.
While this was a purely a spoil for the children, the home is in desperate need of many items such as nappies, toiletries, medical care and AIDS medication, groceries, clothing and much more.
