Father-and-son riding duo to celebrate Father’s Day with their shared passion at the Nissan Winter Classic
Johannesburg’s Peter (48) and Matthew Morrison (15) will be celebrating this Father’s Day on Sunday, 17 June with their shared passion of showjumping. The father-and-son riding duo are competing in one of the highlights on the South African showjumping calendar, the Nissan Winter Classic, which has been running at Shongweni Club from 12 June, with the final day of festivities taking place on 17 June. Peter has been riding for the past 40 years and son, Matthew, took to the saddle at the tender age of two. For this event, Matthew has been competing in the Young Rider’s 1.20 and 1.30 classes, riding Rivendell Chancellor, Alzu Luanda and thoroughbred, Call Me Crazy. Peter has been competing in the 1.10 and 1.35 classes on Rivendell Numerology and Rivendell Saffron. Fortunately, the Morrisons will not be competing against each other this Father’s Day, although Peter admits that his progeny is somewhat faster. Asked what else they will be doing to celebrate, Peter said: “This is our way of bonding and relaxing so we’re just happy to be competing in this show.” Don’t miss out on any of the showjumping action, Nissan test drives, children’s zone and market stalls all featuring at this year’s Nissan Winter Classic.
