Décor District presented by Canvex
Sustainable Solutions And Inspired Designs lay the foundation for the decor district presented by Canvex.
Unique takes on the latest trends will creatively merge into this year’s Décor District presented by Canvex featuring at Decorex Joburg – co-sponsored by Plascon and Caesarstone – which is taking place at the Gallagher Convention Centre from 9 to 13 August.
Bringing this unmissable feature to life will be four of the area’s leading designers – Bockhaus Design, Décor Identity, Distinctive Interiors and Mia Bella Interiors – all of whom have been working the Canvex ‘Conscious Environment’ theme into their home-style installations.
“We want to bring the element of social responsibility through environmental sustainability into the designs of the Décor District,” explained Kirsty Fonzari, Canvex Marketing Manager. “Each designer is encouraged to use locally sourced products, one of which is our locally woven Canvex wall canvas.”
Commenting on their involvement in Decorex Joburg, Fonzari said: “Decorex is an invaluable platform for market engagement and product exposure in the décor, design and lifestyle arena. Here we can showcase the Canvex customised wall canvas and inherent sustainability features with a whole new audience.”
Following their successful creation of the 2016 Man Cave at Decorex Joburg, stand design winners, Rolf and Ivette Bockermann of Bockhaus Design, will be returning this year to curate a fun and inspired sun room for the Décor District.
“We wanted to do a space that is funky and eye-catching yet functional and comfortable,” said Rolf Bockermann. “This year we will be focusing on bold colours, but we generally adapt our style to suit customers’ tastes.”
Pooling their creative talents, the Midrand-based husband-and-wife team bring in personalised décor and design using their South African-crafted bespoke products.
“Our policy, where possible, is to re-use and upcycle our materials, ranging from old pallets to restoring vintage fridges,” he said. “We will be bringing this ethos into our Décor District design.”
Returning for her fifth year at Decorex Joburg is Elisha Annandale of the Randpark Ridge-based Décor Identity. Specialising in full interior design and décor, Annandale has vast experience in décor installations from years in the industry.
“We believe in creating a space that works for each client,” explained Annandale. “We don’t just specialise in one design style but various styles from modern Scandinavian design, to a mix of design eclectic elements, modern contemporary and more.”
She said that, for the Décor District, they would focus on something a bit different by creating a baby’s room, inspired by the recent birth of Annandale’s own son.
“I wanted to create something special and it allowed me to start my own baby furniture range which we will launch at Decorex Joburg this year,” she explained. “It’s based on a flat pack, easy assemble, multi-purpose and functional range which will be for three different markets differing in product material and colours.”
Canvex material will be used on the walls with a design that suits a baby’s room yet will last beyond the baby years.
“The trends for baby rooms are no longer pastel colours but rather focusing on more everyday living interior colours to blend each room in the house and create an overall interior space that works with the rest of the décor,” she continued. “An example is the popular trend in black and white baby and toddler rooms, or navy blue and white with a touch of soft pink, mint or peach tones. Baby trends of using pink for girls and blue for boys have also changed which means more mint, peach, green and yellow baby rooms which suit either gender.”
The room will reflect Annandale’s simple yet modern style through an aesthetically appealing space.
“I like to keep things monochrome by adding depths of grey and black to a colour scheme and highlighting with accent tones of a particular colour.”
Fourways-based Distinctive Interiors has been showcasing at Decorex since its inception and will return this year to enliven the Canvex Décor District in their modern chic style.
“We believe it’s all about creating that uniquely individual look so we tend to adapt our style accordingly,” explained Andrew Scrivener. “In our planning for Decorex 2017, we have incorporated a luxurious modern industrial look and feel that reflects modern-day life where the lines between work and play are becoming increasingly blurred.”
Keeping quiet on this year’s feature, Distinctive Interiors is sure to incorporate their global experience and talent for upcycling and re-finishing treasured items of existing furniture with their overriding focus of ‘design, design, design!’
“Since life is currently all about sustainability and flexibility, we are using Canvex’s product to showcase exactly that,” said Scrivener. “Beautiful feature elements in today’s interiors do not have to be permanent, nor do they have to cost the earth. It’s all about thinking out of the box to create a surprising result that can be changed as frequently as the seasons – and trends – change. This year we are embracing current industrial trends but with somewhat of an edgy spin.”
First-time exhibitors, Mia Bella Interiors, will bring their signature ‘pure Mia Bella Interiors’ style to their bedroom installation.
“We feel the master bedroom in a home is the most meaningful, private and intimate sanctuary,” said Joy Greenberg. “It’s a place to escape the stress of everyday life, a place where you can be yourself.”
The Bryanston-based designers take pride in assisting clients with home furnishings that mirror the individual personality using the latest trends, fashion and designs.
Commenting on this year’s Décor District, Greenberg said: “We will be offering beautiful pieces of furniture in a variety of textures and finishes which incorporate natural elements such as recycled wood with a twist! We are aware of the challenges facing our planet which is why we use high-quality, durable furniture which is functional and does not need replacing. Visitors can expect an exciting classical feature with a twist of contemporary elements and trends.”
