When the price of bread went up for the second time in 2016, Nicolas Refiloe Rantekoa decided something had to be done. He saw low income earners around him how were battling to purchase the simplest of foodstuffs.
The community I am living in, it is not fair for them to have to purchase bread at such a high price.
— Nicolas Refiloe Rantekoa, Founder: Barotho Bakery
So he gathered some friends and started Borotho Bakery – producing fresh loaves of bread daily at just R5 per loaf in White City, Jabavu.
His business boost delivered in the Datsun GO+ Panel Van included a laptop and generator – helping Nicolas overcome the impact of erratic electricity supply to the area and helping him to modernise his order taking and accounting.
Now just 6 months old, the bakery serves around 250 loaves a day to the nearby community and has aspirations for expansion as a franchise concept.
Nicolas Rantekoa and his team welcome the visit from Jacob in the Datsun GO+ Panel Van.
To win the Datsun GO+ Panel Van would be a dream come true for Rantekoa. He says it would allow him to expand his business in Sebokeng and other Vaal townships – areas he already gets enquiries from! Currently he uses a bicycle to deliver his products
