Reddersburg, Xhariep Region, Free State

Reddersburg, Free State, South Africa

Reddersburg (Saviours Town) is a tiny town in the Xhariep Region of the Free State known for its two beautiful sandstone churches. The town was established in the 1800’s by the Dutch Reform Church, which also ran the town until 1894, when a municipality was established to govern the town. Up until then, Reddersburg was a particularly pious town, and among other rules, the punishment for profane language was banishment.

There are also a number of other historical buildings in Reddersburg, including a monument to fallen soldiers in Anglo Boer War.

The area around Reddersburg is given over mostly to sheep and cattle farming, as well as the production of various crops. In addition there are game and hunting lodges and a crocodile farm.
