Hennenman, Goldfields Region, Free State
Hennenman is a small town in the Goldfields Region of the Free State, just east of Welkom. Unlike the other towns clustered around Welkom, Hennenman is not a gold mining town and so is free of the gold mine towers that characterize most other towns in the district. The town was originally a train station stop but became a town after the discovery of lime in the area an the opening of two cement factories
Hennenman’s main claim to fame is a tragic air accident, but you are sure to find good old Boer hospitality in this very Afrikaans town. There are several good guesthouses and guest farms in the vicinity.
Like many areas of the Free State, Hennenman can get bitterly cold in winter, with temperatures dropping well below freezing.
Hennenman is on a Railways route, and there is also an air strip.
Getting there: Hennenman is 17km north west of Ventersburg on the R70.
