Bultfontein

Bultfontein is a very small town with a population of only around 1000 in the Goldfields Region of the Free State, surrounded by farmlands, game farms, guest farms and hunting lodges.

The annual Boertjie Kontreifees (Little Farmers Country Fest) attracts thousands of people to livestock auctions, craft markets, wholesome country fare and home baked goodies and ‘lekka’ (nice in Afrikaans) entertainment.

There are also many dams and salt pans in the area, including the large Protea Salt Pan, 13km from town, which is home to flamingoes, and offers great birdwatching. Locals enjoy watersports on the dams.

Getting there: Bultfontein is exactly 100km north of Bloemfontein on the R700.
