Explore! Take a Walk on the Wine Side
Here we are on 2 March 2021, at Lockdown Alert Level 1. While outdoor gatherings allow 250, indoor gatherings – pretty much a necessity for a potential wine show – are still restricted to 100 pax max.
Unfortunately, that means we are still unable to gather socially with a glass in hand, with each other and/or the Cape winemakers, in our traditional time slot on the annual calendar around Easter (March/April). However, we do hope the decline in infections continues, and immunity increases, so that we may be able to have a Mpumalanga Wine Show as we know it, before the year is over.
Until then, there are still loads of opportunities to explore the Winelands as virtual tourists. For the online rendition of WineX 2020, we loaded over 260 tasting videos on the site. Our aim was for you to set up tasting stations to enjoy wine in your own time, with real friends, the winemaker an on-screen presence. There were also links to the producers’ shopping portals, to enable you to buy wine directly.
Over time it became clear that the tasting videos were so much more than we had intended: they were vibrant and completely luminous virtual travel and wine tourism moments. So, we have kept the content and refreshed the site: we turned the Tasting Videos’ alpha listing on its head, running from Z to A for a change; and we have added a selection by wine region – for those who like returning to their favourite places; and others, who prefer venturing in the unknown, finding wines they’ve never heard of.
Even if you don’t have that particular glass of wine in your hand to experience the virtual “tasting note”, you will find yourself in – or drone-flying over – the vineyards and cellars, and face-to-face with the winemakers. The videos are eye-opening and informative, full of juicy facts about the world of winemaking and the wine landscape.
Go to Winex Tasting Videos to explore your way through 267 wines from 61 producers in 16 Cape wine regions and BUY WINE directly from the farms – for delivery to your door.
You can also show your support to the thousands of wine industry workers affected by the various alcohol bans, by participating in the Feed a Family Project, the #SaveSAwine initiative set up to help families still in need.

We look forward to the prospect of gathering in person in the not too distant future. Until then, stay safe and supportive.
