Milan Park in Bethal struggles with trash
He said that the rubbish is picked up and then stacked strategically for removal, however, this is where the challenge arise.
Refuse removal in GMM is a daily headache and residents are facing a continuous struggle of being left in the stench.
Local resident and principal of MD Coovadia Combined School, Mr Gerhard Burger, said the area of Milan Park is struggling with waste removal.
According to Mr Burger, GMM has a program in place where jobs are created and people are hired to clean up the town and surrounding areas.
“This is done regularly from the Social Development Offices in Bethal, on the R38 towards Standerton and also in Milan Park,” said Mr Burger.
He said that the rubbish is picked up and then stacked strategically for removal, however, this is where the challenge arises.
“The municipality does not remove this in time and then the bags are torn open by stray cattle or vagrants in the area. This then becomes a bigger problem.
“What then is the use of the project in the first place?” asked Mr Burger.
Because of this, the school community decided to try and make the school environment more healthy and clean.
Transport was arranged by the school governing body to assist with the removal of the refuse bags.
According to Mr Burger, it took three days to pick up and remove all the rubbish.
“The entrance to the school is now clean. The school urges the community not to dump garbage just anywhere but to revere to designated areas,” concluded Mr Burger.
