Former Secunda resident, Leo Burg, releases latest song
Leo Burg, a singer who grew up in Secunda, recently released his latest song, “Close your Eyes”.
Burg matriculated at Hoërskool Secunda in 2015 and moved to Pretoria when he was 19 after he was awarded a scholarship at the Inscape Design College.
His cover song, “You’re Somebody Else”, went viral on YouTube and SoundCloud in 2018 and since then he also released “Not Enough” and “Somehow” while working alongside other artists on creating immersive visual experiences to complement their music.
“I have always been into the arts, design and music, but I have never been able to choose one specific niche in the creative space,” said Burg.
During his three years of studying, he began delving into the music scene with some cover music and he worked with Armand Joubert, a former artist who was seen on the reality series, The Voice.
Burg debuted his first original single hit in 2019 and also graduated as a fashion designer in the same year.
He then moved to Johannesburg where he began working as an art director for an EdTech company.
“My music and art are my passion projects,” said Burg.
In his free time, he enjoys designing other musicians’ cover artwork.
His newest hit, “Close your Eyes”, is mastered in Dolby Atmos (a surround sound technology) to take full advantage of Apple Music’s latest and greatest spatial audio, allowing sound to resonate in front, from the sides, behind and even from above.
The idea is to recreate the audio experience of a cinema, placing the listener in the centre.
This technology is still very new and “Close Your Eyes” will be one of the first singles in South Africa to explore this incredible audio innovation.
Burg wrote “Close your Eyes” alongside Joubert and after recording the first demo, Burg knew immediately that he wanted to feature the talented up and coming local artist, Lara Wattam to work with him.
“Close Your Eyes” includes some of the top local talents like producer Hendrik Joerges and Yahto Kraft and Joubert.
Burg is planning on creating new music and art in the future and said he sees no divide between art and music and it is an integrated part of his being.
“As a complete perfectionist, I love to plan and perfect my craft.”
He still has a few exciting things up his sleeve that he will be revealed in the final stretch of this year.
“Fame is about having influence and I like to try my best to remove myself from the typical.
“Music is what my life consists of, I cannot fathom a life without music.
“I find my freedom in the music and my music is about feeling and connection.”
Burg’s wish is to one day write a song with the famous Jack Antonoff.
He has been working mainly with Joubert, who is also one of his best friends.
Burg enjoys reading biographies and studying people’s lives.
