eMbalenhle residents are now receiving social services on their doorstep
The Mpumalanga Department of Social Development opened new offices at eMbalenhle.
Residents no longer have to go to Evander for services, unless it is for grants applications.
The offices will also offer services such as old age, child and disability grants from the South African Security Agency (SASSA) in the near future.
Currently, only auxiliary social workers or practitioners that specialise in community development, children and families, foster care, early childhood development and family conflicts are available at the new offices.
“eMbalenhle community must know the department is bringing services nearer to this community because of the frustrations they were facing of having to travel to Evander and then sometimes having to return home without being assisted because of certain reasons or maybe certain outstanding documents that are required. Now its is going to be easier for them and they will not have to stress about taxi fare,” said Ms Elder Mahlangu, social workers supervisor.
“As we are nowhere in eMbalenhle, it will be easy for the community to come forward, especially those with children who are in conflict with the law because sometimes they don’t understand how to do the restorative justice work with regard to those children,” said Ms Mahlangu.
She said other services they are offering include the monitoring of non-profit organisation compliance and social relieve of distress like giving food parcel to the needy.
Ms Mahlangu also said they are working on a rotational roster from Monday to Friday.
