THE BEST ABILITY IS AVAILABILITY…
Never has there been a time like now, a time when large parts of our community struggle to meet commitments, a time when the Beloved Country’s destiny seems to be held by a band of brigands, a time when jobs are lost and not created, a time when joy seems little and the woes too many to count, a time of hopelessness…
Amidst desperate times there have always been those few who come to serve, those who reach out with time, talent and effort, aid and dogged schlepping behind the scenes. This is to salute every single volunteer and worker in an NGO or parastatal organisation that give of themselves to help others.
Social workers, teachers, doctors and nurses, vets and assistants, parents and cleaners, admin officers and CEO’s and all those in between give, with no hope of receiving back – except the investment in the good of humanity, a treasure in eternity, a deposit in the bank of kindness and empathy.
There are so many organisations in this beautiful city that are in need of you – Madam, Sir; the only ability you need is your availability! We need those who are teenagers, pensioners, housewives and professionals, we need those who can sew, knit, crochet, nurse, cook, teach, talk, sing, work and sell; we need those who can answer phones, make calls, comfort a patient, pray for the destitute; we need those who can give money yes, but we need those who cannot just as much to give what they have – two hands and a willing heart.
We ask each and every single inhabitant of Cosmos Country to get involved in the community. Contact your church, school or community NGO’s to get involved, donate old furniture, clothes, food, stock, cutlery, crockery or trinkets to organisations to sell or distribute, buy from them if it’s for a charitable cause or help them sell and let us start from ground zero (there where life happens) to mean something to someone else.
Many of these organisations may be involved in selling shoelaces and stickers for Tekkie Tax Day (26 May 2017). For R35 you CAN make a difference! This is also a heartfelt plea for all businesses in Secunda and surrounds to get involved!
Have you paid your tax this year? No, not that kind of tax . . . I am talking about Tekkie Tax!
National Tekkie Tax Day is on FRIDAY, 26 MAY 2017
Tekkie Tax is a national fundraising campaign for a proud group of welfare organisations in SA, who came together for the biggest campaign of all time. We believe that:
“Together we can achieve more than our individual efforts combined.”

A worthy ambassador in Pam Kotze!
MPUMALANGA MENTAL HEALTH – Two of the most well-known institutions of our town, MARIETJIE SCHOOL AND KRISTOPHER RYAN are managed and supported by these volunteer angels. Engela Strydom (cell: 084 5157417) can be reached for more information.
KRISTOPHER RYAN (Principal Pam Kotzé @ 082 466 5757) is in need of overseers, fundraisers and teachers (Woodwork and Mathematics). The centre has its own bakery where they attempt to raise enough funds for themselves, but through Lake Umuzi’s generous contribution of the Makoro venue, a lovely morning tea will be hosted on 6 May 2017. Exhibition stalls, live Spanish entertainment, the HRP choir and sales will be there. Join them for R100 pp!
