Here are South Africa’s most reliable cars

Toyota has emerged as the most reliable vehicle brand in South Africa, snapping up ten gold awards in the latest South African vehicle quality survey conducted by global market research group, Ipsos.
The results for the survey were derived from over 7,000 vehicle owners across 17 different brands.
More than one gold award was made in some of the categories where two or more vehicles or brands both qualified and could not be separated for the gold award in terms of the number of problems reported per 100 vehicles, Ipsos said.
Toyota came out on top with ten gold awards, followed by Nissan with eight; Volkswagen with six; Audi with five; Ford with two; and one each for Opel and Renault.
The best performing vehicle in the Ipsos Vehicle Quality Survey (VQS) was the Audi A3 Sportback, which topped the Passenger Car rankings with 27 problems reported per 100 vehicles. The Audi Q5 topped the Recreational category with a score of 33.
The best performing Light Commercial Vehicle was the Toyota Hilux Petrol Single Cab with a score of 43.
According to Patrick Busschau, Ipsos Automotive Business Unit Director, the scores in the research can be equated to the average number of product-related defects, problems or issues reported by customers at approximately three months of ownership.
“As a result, the lower the score the better, as this is indicative of a fewer number of problems reported,” he said.
In all cases, customers included in the survey purchased their vehicles new from the various branded franchised dealerships in South Africa.
