Memories Pub and Grill celebrates their 4th Birthday!
Every year Memories Pub & Grill hosts an event to celebrate their birthday, and this year was a huge success just like all the others. Upon reading the small notice on their Facebook Page I wasn’t overly impressed, but how wrong I was!
Upon entering the building a huge poster of singing legends James Dean and Marilyn Monroe greets you, and it’s evident what the theme is, a tribute to the greats – Marilyn Monroe, James Dean & Elvis Presley.
I was expecting the pub to warm up from 17:30 but to my awe the bar was packed at 16:45, and there were smiles to be seen everywhere.
The bustling of the crowd grew louder as Manie Jackson, the artist of the evening, began to mingle with the attendees. I was very pleased to hear 80 year old Minshaw is the mother of Memories’ owner, Joany Swart, and it was clear where the cultural background came from. Everytime Joany mentioned her parents her eyes would swell with appreciative tears.
When Manie Jackson took the stage, roaring filled the air, I instantly looked up to see the ceiling filled with color changing LEDs. This truly made me feel like I was among the stars, and the sensation was exalted when Manie started doing his version of stand-up comedy. You could see the audience’s love for Manie and the pub, when they started swaying and singing along to ‘Julia’.
Another tribute was the one Joany made to her parents, an annual father-daughter and mother-son dance to the song ‘Hoe sê mens dankie’. A beautiful sight indeed.
This pub is truly homely – a fun, welcoming place! I suspect it is all thanks to to the fun-loving owner and wonderful staff!
